Maria Philipsen Owens is from Denmark, but has called New Zealand her home for around 18 years. Sculpturing was her big passion in her early twenties, which she started up again in early 2020. Around the same time she began to explore abstract painting using acrylic, oil pastels and pencils. Maria paints intuitively and gets inspiration from her surroundings, music and the mood she is in. She paints to lose track of time, to be totally absorbed, to be mindful of shapes, colours and lines.
