Kyoko Takashima presents a selection of colourful and playful genre pillars by Bach, Debussy and Chopin. Kyoko arrived in New Zealand in March of 2021 and she now lives in Nelson. Formerly a lecturer of piano at Osaka College of Music in Japan, Kyoko was a committee member of Sakai City Opera in Osaka, and studied the summer academy at The Mozarteum University of Salzburg. She has performed a number of solo recitals and concertos, and accompanied solo artists in Japan and internationally, including in Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and the USA.
In 2010 Kyoko held a recital of works by Bach and Toru Takemitsu in Auckland and followed this up with a charity concert for the Christchurch earthquake in 2014.
Bach's "Italian Concerto", written for harpsichord and now a feature in the piano repertoire, brilliantly integrates what would normally be separate solo and orchestral parts, for the soloist to play alone.
"Children's Corner" by Debussy is full of colour and playful adventure, and was composed for his beloved daughter "Chouchou".
"Clair de Lune" is a part of "Suite bergamasque" whose calm and soothing melody is immediately recognisable.
To conclude this concert, enjoy the fascinating musical world of Chopin - "Grand Valse brillante", "Barcarolle" and "Andante spianato et Grande polonaise brillante".
