Home Alone Music is proud to present 'The light you throw' – the third album from Te Whanganui-a-Tara based electricUTOPIA songwriter Lake South. Released in September 2021, the album was written in the midst of Aotearoa's (first) Level-4 lockdown and recorded at a rented house in Waikawa beach.

From the anxiety of the pandemic comes a record full of hope, joy and defiance. Expertly crafted odes to friends, the cities they live in, and the futures they strive for.

These are songs to be experienced live and Lake South has the band to make them pop. Theo Sekeris (Ras Judah, Rubita) is on bass, Eddie Crawshaw (Sheep Dog & Wolf, Bonaparte) on drums, and Penelope Esplin (French for Rabbits, Grawlixes) adds beatific harmonies and synths.

This collection follows 2017's 'If You're Born On An Island the Ocean Heals You' and the follow-up, 'Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika', in late 2019. Both records have been critically acclaimed with Graham Reid calling Lake an electro-folk postcard poet of his doubting generation.

"Earnest and acutely observed nostalgia turns into uplifting anthems time and again" – Alex Behan (Sunday Star Times)

"Gorgeous pop gems...deft, heartfelt, funny." – NZ Musician Magazine

"Recommended for both the misunderstood thinkers searching for meaning as they traverse this new world, and the shallow casuals looking to avoid it. 5/5." – music.net.nz

"Complex, interesting, prematurely nostalgic... yet capturing the zeitgeist for his generation" – Elsewhere Music blog

"Smart lyrics, tasteful synth and a distinct New Zealand accent" – The Wild Honey Pie

"Nostalgic, elegiac synth-pop meditations on what it means to be a 20/30-something in modern Aotearoa" – National Library of NZ

"Encore un bien bel album à se mettre entre les oreilles!" – ziklibrenbib.fr
