We are pleased to announce that Ivy Blue frontman James Brodie will be hitting the road for the first time since 2019 on his first ever solo theatre tour.
The Becoming Brodie Tour will kick off in Palmerston North in August before making its way to select cities in New Zealand and Australia through to early November, performing stripped down versions of his back-catalogue with Ivy Blue and renditions of his new material taken off his debut solo album Becoming (out June 24) while sharing stories about growing up with Autism and ADHD in a new theatrical production. As you might have guessed, these shows will primarily be taking place in small to mid sized theatres instead of the more intimate venues James has performed at in recent years with Ivy Blue, bringing James back to his theatrical roots formed as a member of the ACTA acting group at the Future Te Aroha Centre where James's performing career (and these stories) began over 20 years ago.
And with thanks to Creative Communities Matamata-Piako; this tour will also see James performing his first full-length shows in Morrinsville, Matamata, and his hometown of Te Aroha in over a decade. Exact dates and logistics for these shows are still being finalized and details for these shows will be confirmed closer to the time.
The first round of tour dates to be revealed are:

All Shows (except Auckland Fringe Festival) will be on sale to the General Public at 9am on Tuesday May 24th, with tickets costing $35 (plus booking fees) and $20 (plus booking fees) for concession. Ticketing Links will be available on the Tour tab at brodiespaces.wix.com/brodie
In the build-up to the tour's kick off, James will also be making two special appearances at events in Hamilton and Auckland in July.
Firstly, James will be making his TED debut in Auckland, New Zealand on July 9th at TedXYouthParnellCollege. James will not be playing music at this event, but he will be giving a TED Talk about how student voice can change the world. Tickets for this event are on sale now and information can be found on the Tour tab.
And secondly, James will also be making a short appearance at the Red Faces Variety Show at The Meteor Theatre on the 23rd of July, marking only his 3rd public performance since the COVID-19 Pandemic began (the other two appearances being a short acoustic showcase with Ivy Blue in Wellington in 2020, and James's recent solo set at the #StandWithUkraine benefit show in Te Aroha, New Zealand). Tickets cost $45 (plus booking fees) and all proceeds will benefit the mental health charity GROW NZ, which offer community-based programs and support services to those living with severe mental illness, their support networks, and the wider community. Tickets for this variety event are on sale now, but are selling fast. You can find the ticket link on the Tour tab as well.
Additional shows in New Zealand and the Australian performances will be confirmed at a later date. Please sign up to our mailing list and be the first to know about these shows as soon as they are finalized.
