Investigative journalist, producer and editor Stephen Davis will present a two-hour interactive workshop on disinformation and misinformation and how to combat them.

Q: How do you know which sources to trust?
Q: How can you avoid being fooled by social media?
Q: What is the difference between mis- and dis-information and how do you spot it?

Stephen will help you find the answers to these questions using case studies, quizzes and other techniques he developed for his University of Otago students. The workshop will allow you think critically about the information you consume and pass on to others through both traditional and social media.

Stephen is the author of Truthteller: An investigative reporter’s journey through the world of truth prevention, fake news and conspiracy theories. He will also give a talk later in the day about his book Operation Trojan Horse and podcast series The Secret History of Flight 149.
