We're celebrating World Day for Audio-Visual Heritage with a special workshop for oral history enthusiasts.
In this interactive workshop you will discover the answers to commonly asked questions relating to oral histories, such as: What are oral histories – are they just old people talking about their childhoods? Where can I get training? What equipment should I use - is it ok to use my phone? How can I get people to speak to me? Is consent necessary? What are the best kinds of questions to ask? What should I do with my recordings once I have made them – is it ok to just store them on my computer desktop?

We’ll also introduce you to Tasman District Libraries’ fascinating collection of oral histories, discuss some principles of oral history best practice (as well as some common pitfalls, mistakes and gnarly issues to contend with) and send you in the right direction for further training.

Free. All welcome.
