The final Lecture in our Ngā Manu Winter Lecture Series 'Improving Kiwi health through the microbiome – it’s a gut feeling' with speaker Manpreet Dhami – Manaaki Whenua, Lincoln.
(Te Apārangi Sponsored Speaker).

Manpreet Dhami is a Senior Scientist at Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research and a microbial ecologist by training. She is interested in how species interact and evolve together through symbiosis, coexistence and competition. She performs experimental research to assess the contributions of microbial interactions to host health and function in systems as varied as flowers and roots of plants, metabolism and pollination for insects, and health of birds.

Manpreet became interested in the kiwi after working with kiwi husbandry practitioners participating in the Operation Nest Egg programme to help increase kiwi populations in the wild by 2% annually through captive rearing. The large number of kiwi that are now born in captivity raises the question on how these sterile conditions shape the kiwi microbiome and health outcomes.

This lecture takes place in our Robin’s Nest building at Ngā Manu. Entry is by paper koha at the door.
