Women-only event. Ages 13 plus.

Jackie Clarke and the Aunties will speak with an opening speech and address by the Minister of women the Hon. Jan Tinetti.

Every year the Heretaunga women’s Centre hosts an annual women’s forum to celebrate Women's Suffrage month . These women-only events discuss and showcase issues effecting women and we always aim that the forum will inspire, inform and support women locally.

This year we are thrilled to have Jackie Clarke and the Aunties as our guest speakers.

Jackie Clark is known as an absolute powerhouse of a women. She tells it like it is and makes no apologies for that.

In 2013, Jackie Clark launched The Aunties, a grassroots charity helping women to rebuild their lives after a period of trauma. She quit her job, turning her back on her comfortable life, to focus on The Aunties full-time, becoming Aunty in Charge and assisting hundreds of women with material needs and emotional support.

Jackie has long dreamed of a publication that gives these women a voice. This powerful new book ‘Her Say’ features the stories of a number of very different New Zealand women, told their way. The collected stories chart their narrators' lives and personal histories, through the lens of having lived with - and escaped - an abusive relationship. Her Say is spoken from the heart, uncompromising but offering hope, redemption, personal triumph. It's a book for all women, showing how owning our stories gives us the power to write daring new endings. It will challenge, illuminate, and empower readers - not to mention the storytellers themselves.

The Aunties believe that everyone has the right to live with self-determination, dignity, and knowledge of their mana, in recognition of the value, joy and beauty of their true selves.

Come along and hear the amazing stories and incredible voices of Jackie Clarke and the Aunties.
The book 'Her Say' will be available for purchase on the night.

Ticket includes nibbles, tea and coffee and cake and are available online at Humanitix or call in to the centre to purchase. Phone 06 878 5401.

Please note that Jackie Clarke has stressed to us that it is important for her to keep well, as she has many women she is responsible for looking after. Tickets are sold with the agreement that masks must be worn in the auditorium and that mask pass exemptions must be shown on entry to event.
