Taradale artist Glen Colechin has created an installation piece for the Foyer Gallery entitled Last Supper. Using copper and other recycled materials he’s formed a large boil up and feeding frenzy of fish the like that is often seen while walking along the sand at local beaches.

The Last Supper can be seen as representing humanity; all of us trying to snatch what is available to us from the planet’s dwindling resources, the biggest fish taking the lion’s share. Like a fish in an ocean of possibilities Glen continually scours recycling plants and construction businesses for items he can transform into works of art. He sees shapes in materials and thinks how he can form them into what he wants to create.

“Some things can take a year to manifest, but they all slot into place eventually.”

With an imaginary picture-board in his head, Glen adds images to it as he goes about his daily life. The idea for Last Supper came directly out of this image board and in minutes he had a couple of variations drawn up ready to be considered, and within a couple of months it was made.
