Join the Bay’s community orchestra in a fun-filled, FREE family concert. Compèred by storyteller Jeremy Hantler, and conducted by Justus Rozemond, the performances will entertain, educate and inspire kids of all ages.
Prokofiev's famous adventures of Peter and the Wolf are at the centre of the programme. Hear the little bird played by the flute, the unlucky duck (oboe) and the cat (clarinet) while hero Peter is depicted by cheerful strings and his grumbling grandfather by the bassoon. The ferocious wolf is played by a group of French horns and the hunters by woodwind and trumpets with gunshots on kettledrums. Kids are encouraged to dress up as one of the characters!
Narrator Jeremy Hantler is an accomplished musician and performer, passionate about educating young people to appreciate music, in a funny and entertaining way.
Also on the programme are some short pieces - Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, a puppet from the Italian stage; the Toreadors from Bizet’s opera Carmen; and Copland’s calm and reflective ‘Shaker Melody’, also known as the song ‘Simple Gifts’.
