Sheyne Tuffery is a Wellington-based visual artist who uses a range of art forms to facilitate his visions of Pacific urbanisation. Sheyne received a Bachelor of Visual Arts from AUT in 1995 and his Masters of Fine Arts (honours) in 2000 from The University of Auckland. He is perhaps best known for the dynamic style of his themed woodblock prints of South Pacific Architecture and the ornithology of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Tuffery describes himself as a paper architect who uses his work to create and represent his own cultural context and sense of belonging. His new work explores the fragility of Earth's ecosystems to investigate whether there is spirituality in science.

Class Description
This one-day workshop will be an exploration into experimental relief textured printing. Participants are asked to collect soft materials that can be added as a matrix/texture to print from and create layered compositions (think wallpapers/rubber mats/placemats – around A4 in size). We will explore embossing, image transfer, hand burnishing, and ghost printing. Further, we will also make one A4 silhouette woodblock per participant to combine with the found object layering. Students will need a silhouette idea, around A4 size.
What materials will be needed?
Found objects. Ideas of what to bring in: old flax kete, dried leaves, plastic plants, doilies, rubber textures (old bathroom mats, lace material, plastic or real feathers and an idea for a woodblock silhouette.
Materials must be soft to avoid damaging the press. A range of materials will also be provided on the day.
Wear comfortable clothes.
Bring a packed lunch.
