Are you drawn to the pounding rhythms and sensuous grace of flamenco dance? Now is your chance to learn this passionate art form in a fun environment in classes at 6:00pm every Tuesday (during term time) at Toi Poneke Dance Studio.

Please register at the link.

Flamenco originated from a melting pot of cultures in southern Spain. It weaves canté (song), guitar, percussion and dance together into a powerful, passionate art form.

Taught by Jessica Garland
Jessica started dancing flamenco in New Zealand and, at a young age, travelled to Spain to study full-time under leading flamenco artists. On her return, she taught and performed around Aotearoa as part of the Desde Sevilla Flamenco Dance Company. Back in Wellington after 12 years in London, she is keen to help grow and sustain the flamenco community in Pōneke and beyond. Jessica has recently performed with Paul Bosauder at the Hawke's Bay Arts Festival.

Classes accompanied by guitarist Mark Edwards, Bill Nichol, Richard Lucy, Enrique Pardo.

The classes are non-profit; all proceeds will go into helping grow the flamenco community in New Zealand.

We offer classes every Tuesday evening.

Class times
6.00 - 6.40 Flamenco Foundation
6.45 - 7.30 Flamenco Intermediate

Flamenco Foundation – Sevillanas
This class is for anyone new to flamenco. The class will focus on compás (timing) and technique. We will learn the coplas of Sevillanas (while also reviewing the Bulerias and Tangos we learned in the first two terms).

Flamenco Intermediate - Tarantos
For those with flamenco dance experience and are keen to extend and develop. This term, we will learn a new palo - Tarantos.

Pay by direct transfer

All proceeds from class fees go into our fund to support and develop flamenco in Aotearoa.
