About Katie

Mezzo-soprano Katie Trigg is well on her way towards becoming an accomplished young opera singer. Katie studied as a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar at the University of Waikato under the tutelage of Stephanie Acraman.

After completing her Bachelor of Music with first-class Honours, Katie spent 2021 as a Dame Malvina Major Foundation Studio Artist with New Zealand Opera. Through this programme she had the opportunity to learn from some of New Zealand’s finest coaches and teachers.

An alumna of New Zealand Opera School (2019, 2020, and 2021), Katie was awarded the Dame Sister Mary Leo Scholarship in conjunction with Sue and Guy Haddleton Emerging Artist Award in 2020. Katie has recently completed successful auditions to schools in the USA and will be starting her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in August 2022.

The Curtis Institute of Music is one of the most prestigious music schools in the world and has the lowest acceptance rate (4%) of any school in the United States.

Students educated at Curtis receive the highest quality of teaching and go on to lead globally in their profession. The school specialises in operatic and orchestral performance and is the perfect place for young artists to further their development towards becoming professional opera singers. As a Curtis student, Katie will have personalised attention with their world-renowned faculty and celebrated visiting artist. She will be joining a community of musical peers which will challenge and inspire and connect to a network of distinguished alumni with international reach and a legacy that far surpasses size. Curtis alumni are regularly among the winners of the most prestigious awards and honours in the classical musical world, including Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships, and Avery Fisher Awards. They sing with the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Covent Garden, and the Vienna Straatsoper, to name a few. Leading Orchestras, opera houses, and chamber music series around the world regularly feature Curtis Alumni as guest artists.
