Come along and learn how to make your own felt bowls with Simone Bensdorp in a workshop held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building.

This class is for children aged 10 and above (no adult supervision required, though you are welcome to stay!).

This workshop is free/low-cost for Community Service Card holders, though donations are appreciated. The standard workshop price of $37 applies for those without cards. Please select the appropriate option at the bottom of the page.

Vaccine passes and facemasks are required for attendees over 12 at this workshop. More details about our COVID 19 protocols can be found HERE

In this workshop Simone Bensdorp of Wild Felt will teach your youngster how to make a felt bowl using natural, undyed, New Zealand wool and traditional felting techniques. Wool felt-making is the oldest known way to make fabric, simply by combining wool, soap and water. This handmade product requires no fancy machines or chemicals, it is a simple practice that anyone can learn and use. You will design and make your own bowl and leave with the skills to continue felting at home.

Please bring one towel, all other materials will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a spare bag for your towel and bowl as they may still be wet after the class.

Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.

Refund/credit requests

Participants who have COVID 19 symptoms, or who are required to self-isolate due to being a close contact, must not attend the workshop.

If you need to miss the workshop in order to isolate, we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can try to fill your space. Depending on the circumstances, you will either be offered a refund or a credit.

Refunds or credits will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell, or without a Vaccine pass, and they will be asked to leave.

We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre.
