City Welcome - Powhiri for Newcomers

If you’ve recently moved to Palmy we want to say kia ora, and give you a proper welcome to our great city.

We love working alongside Rangitāne to formally welcome newcomers to our city, but Covid-19 has meant we haven’t been able to do it for a couple of years.

Lots of people have moved to Palmy from other New Zealand centres, and with the borders reopening we expect there’ll be plenty more soon.

So, we’re hosting our famous welcoming event this July.

Rangitāne leads the event with a powhiri formally welcoming everyone to Palmy. Then we share kai (food) and meet one another before council staff and Rangitāne show you around the city centre.
You don’t need to register to attend and this is a free event. See you there!
