Set in New Zealand during the fast-changing, tumultuous 1980s era of the anti-nuclear movement, Springbok rugby tour protests and the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, Christine Leunens's In Amber’s Wake is a powerful and passionate novel that shows the staggering lengths some people will go to for those they love. As unpredictable as it is heartfelt, on publication it went straight onto the New Zealand Bestsellers list and is being made into a film by the producer of Thelma & Louise – with a screenplay penned by Christine herself.
Christine is no stranger to the adaptation of her work to film: Taika Waititi's Academy Award winning Jojo Rabbit was based on her Prix Médicis nominated novel Caging Skies. She is also the author of Primordial Soup, described by the Sunday Times as ‘a remarkable debut novel’ and A Can of Sunshine, selected as one of the Best Books of the Year 2013 by the New Zealand Herald. Between them, her novels have been translated into twenty languages.
Christine will talk about her work with Queenstown writer Jane Bloomfield.
