Women are very much in the minority of fly fishers in NZ. We are trying to encourage participation by providing a friendly and fun tournament allowing women who are keen on fly fishing to get together, find some fishing buddies and learn more about fly fishing. A fun weekend whether you are experienced or a beginner. A few prizes but emphasis is getting out there fishing and meeting other anglers.
2 days of fishing. Inexperienced anglers can be buddied up with experienced anglers to increase their skills.
Anglers can be catch and release or catch and keep, with 3 main prizes. 1. most points (following sports fly fishing rules which are catch and release only) sponsored by Sporting Life Turangi.
2. Average length fish for any fish caught.
3. Biggest fish (based on length, either catch and release or catch and keep).
The focus is on a social event though rather than big prizes and we are a welcoming group for those who want to experience fly fishing in a variety of forms whether it is traditional indicator nymphing, wet lining or euro nymphing, there will be an angler to show you various techniques.
8-9am Start Friday 27 May with safety briefing 8.30am compulsory attendance or call in.
Buddy up and fish throughout the day.
330-4pm weigh in at Tongariro River Motel and catch up, or put in catch cards for those that are catch and release.
530pm drinks and nibbles (byo) and talk and videos at Sporting Life, Turangi
5am fishing can start
330-4pm weigh in and catch up again.
6pm Dinner and prizegiving (dinner at own cost).
