A child crawls through a world of plastic waste in search of water but knows she won’t make it if the blood-drinking gulls catch a glimpse of her. A young woman plots her way onto a reality TV show where murderers are publicly executed in a manner that mirrors their crimes. Mice conspire with a seamstress to bring her dead fiancé back to life using an old English tradition. These are some of the disturbing scenarios in a new collection of short stories by one of QWF's founding trustees, Bethany G Rogers.
Bethany's prose and poetry has been published internationally and commended by Aesthetica magazine and shortlisted for the Manchester Fiction Prize. In 2021 she was selected for the New Zealand Society of Authors mentorship programme for emerging writers. Kaleidoscopes in the Dark, a collection of stories that teem with black humour, remnants of fairytales and gothic themes, is the result.
Originally from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Bethany lives in Queenstown with a ginormous house rabbit called Oscar Wilde. At the launch of her book she will talk with Te Anau writer and book editor Sara Litchfield.
