Cadenza is a two day competition of 12 of the best secondary school choirs in the South Island. From The Big Sing regional competitions held around the country earlier this year, the top 24 choirs are chosen to go to Finale to compete, and the next 36 are selected for the three Cadenzas around New Zealand. Timaru is proud to be hosting our second Cadenza this year and the public are welcome to attend sessions as well as the Gala Concert on Saturday evening.
Session 1 is on Friday from 2pm - 3:30pm and Session 2 is on Saturday from 10:30am - 12 midday. These are entry by programme available at the door for $5. Six choirs will perform two songs each in these sessions.
The Gala Concert features all 12 choirs performing one song each, and then performing together the massed works they will have been working on through their workshops. They are tutored and adjudicated by internationally acclaimed conductor Dr Elise Bradley. The singing of the choirs is exhilarating and a joy to experience, come and share the excitement!
