New to Tramping? Wanting to get back into tramping? Our ‘Beginner Tramps’ programme may be just what you are looking for.
Our programme involves a graduated series of tramps. Where we go and how fast will depend on the group but we plan to progress so if you stick with the programme you can work up to getting into the Ruahines on an overnight tramp.

Suitable for all ages from youth up to those getting into tramping later in life.

The first tramp will involve about 4-6 hours walking but the terrain will not be difficult. We plan for the tramps to get a little harder each month - which means longer walking time and/or more difficult terrain (steeper and more tricky track eg roots, things you need to clamber over, etc)

For any of our tramps, the basics you need are:
- a backpack with your lunch, drink, snack food.
- a waterproof jacket
- warm layers including a warm jacket (eg a fleece) to put on when we stop, polypro or merino longsleeve top and longjohns, and warm hat and gloves.
- Personal stuff including any medications, blister plasters, and toilet paper.
- Comfortable footwear.

For the first tramp you won't need tramping boots - good running shoes are fine for this trip just so long as they are comfortable for walking in. For later tramps you might want tramping boots and possibly gaiters.

You will probably get hot when walking, so you should wear layers you can take off. You will probably get muddy too.
