Have you ever wanted to capture the beauty of the night sky? Have you seen those stunning wide shots of the Milky Way and wondered how do I take a photo like that? Have you ever marvelled at incredible pictures of distant galaxies and wondered how they are captured? Then this is the course for you.

Hari and Sam are experienced astrophotographers that want you to capture the magic of the night sky as well. Astrophotography is a tricky business as it requires pushing your camera to the limit of its design in capturing very faint objects.

What we cover:

What equipment you need for astrophotography, from mobile phones through to high end specialist cameras.
How to set up your camera to photograph the Milky Way.
The techniques to photograph the Moon (it works with a mobile phone) and the planets.
How to take pictures of deep sky objects like galaxies.
How to process your images to reduce noise and create a stunning final image.

The Instructors

Your instructors are Hari and Sam who are crazy about the night sky and all things to do with space. Both of them have been doing astrophotography for nearly two decades and have a wealth of experience across all of the different fields associated with photographing the night sky. Sam specialises in photographing deep sky objects and has photographed many galaxies, star clusters and nebulae. He also photographs the Sun, Moon and planets. Hari is the wide field specialist and loves photographing the Milky Way. She takes stunning images of wide areas of the sky and has learned how to get the best out of her equipment.

Venue and Numbers

The course is held at Star Safari Lab, 15 Charles Street in Carterton. We limit the number of attendees to 5 so that we can give you the best possible learning environment and can answer your questions. The course is four hours long and will consist of plenty of time for discussion and questions as well a practical sessions looking at equipment and settings.

COVID

As we are operating in the Red Traffic Light setting for COVID we are required to have contact tracing and will need to see vaccine passes. Also you will need to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The venue is well ventilated.

15 Years and younger

If you have someone 15 years or younger that you want to attend you will need to purchase a full price ticket. As our numbers are limited it is important that you let us know who is coming by selecting the add-on ticket for 15 years and younger. If you have any questions or issue with the booking then please contact us at star-safari@milky-way.kiwi
