Art Exhibition

Reyburn House Art Gallery presents a new exhibition by "Collective Practise" a group of artists based in Whangarei. Welcome to an open evening 5pm - 7pm Tuesday 7th June. Meet the artists and share a glass of wine.

Catherine Davies-Colley, skilled in textiles, garment construction and an inexhaustible knowledge of the way humans relate to garments as social objects, Catherine creates installations of works that describe her relationship to people and place. Catherine employs leading-edge textile technologies.
Ros May finished her Bachelor of Applied Arts in 2020. A social realist, Ros combines her skills in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and painting to suit the concepts she’s working to unpack. Key areas of thought are the ways people communicate, how words have power and can be used to include or exclude people.

Alex Moyse, a self-taught visual artist who began her journey in illustration and design as a way of coping with debilitating chronic pain. From there she expanded her creative bubble, staying true to her pull towards the meditative effect of time-consuming, and finely detailed work. Recently dabbling with painting before discovering her penchant for ‘drawing with paper’.

Jolene Pascoe is a visual artist who works in the medium of contemporary printmaking, using her digital art to create the images she prints. Grounding her creative practice are Manaakitanga, Aroha and Kaitiakitanga. Her passion for bold vibrant colour and shape find expression in printed work, hand hooked rugs, brooches and other media. Currently assembling an installation to evoke those feelings of nostalgia and fragments of memories that are held in everyday objects.

Angela Rowe completed a Master of Fine Arts through Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in 2020. Her practice is diverse and multifaceted, it includes collaboration, storytelling, textile work, installation, performance, drawing, audio and video work. Recently, the work Selfies Stitched in lockdown 2020 was a finalist in the Wallace Awards 2020 and is part of the touring finalist showcase. Another stitch work, Exercise 45, was a finalist in Changing Threads 2021, National Fibre Art Awards in Nelson.

Linette van Greunen’s focus is with materiality and process in response to place. The time she spends walking, observing and gathering ideas and images in her local environment results in creation of drawings, she often translates this mark-making onto paper, textile and ceramics. This practice connects to her contemplations around climate change, the value of land, colonization and ecology.
