Andrew worked in newspapers as a photographer for about 20 years. He started at a community newspaper in Sydney and, moving back to New Zealand, he worked at the Whakatane Beacon. Two years later he moved to his first daily paper the Waikato Times, followed by the Dominion which a year later merged with the Evening Post and became the Dompost.

Andrew left newspapers around 9 years ago to pursue another dream and now drives trains for a living. He still loves taking pictures but now can pretty much take what he wants, when he wants. He is now becoming a Heartfelt photographer – Heartfelt is a volunteer organisation of professional photographers dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families who have experienced stillbirth or have children with serious or life threatening illness.

Andrew loved his years in newspapers and believes this was part of the best years in the news photography game. He started shooting b&w and slide film and finished using camera gear that enabled a picture to be seen by editors in New Zealand less than 2 mins after it was taken in Athens.
