This year is the centenary of the publication of Katherine Mansfield’s third collection of short stories, 'The Garden Party and Other Stories'. The collection includes some of Mansfield’s best-known and most-loved stories, such as ‘At the Bay’, ‘The Garden Party’ and ‘Miss Brill’. But what about the other twelve?

In this winter series with Wellington writers, we ask a local writer to choose one of the lesser-known stories from the collection to read out loud and chat about on a Sunday afternoon. You can read the story in advance and come with your own thoughts and questions, or come along and discover the story for the first time and see what it makes you think and feel in the moment. We love talking Mansfield, so come join us in person or via Zoom!

If you'd like to attend via Zoom, please contact us and we'll send you the link.

SUNDAY 7 AUGUST: ROSE LU READS 'THE LADY'S MAID'. Rose is currently living just up the road from Katherine Mansfield House & Garden as the 2022 Randell Cottage Writer in Residence! Rose holds a Masters of Creative Writing from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington’s International Institute of Modern Letters. Her first book was the 2019 essay collection 'All Who Live On Islands', winner of the IIML’s 2018 creative non-fiction writing prize. The essays in 'All Who Live on Islands' draw on Rose's experiences as the child of Chinese immigrants in small-town New Zealand.

You can find out more and read ‘The Lady’s Maid’ on our website.
