This year is the centenary of the publication of Katherine Mansfield’s third collection of short stories, 'The Garden Party and Other Stories'. The collection includes some of Mansfield’s best-known and most-loved stories, such as ‘At the Bay’, ‘The Garden Party’ and ‘Miss Brill’. But what about the other twelve?

In this winter series with Wellington writers, we ask a local writer to choose one of the lesser-known stories from the collection to read out loud and chat about on a Sunday afternoon. You can read the story in advance and come with your own thoughts and questions, or come along and discover the story for the first time and see what it makes you think and feel in the moment. We love talking Mansfield, so come join us in person or via Zoom! (If you'd like to attend via Zoom, please contact us and we'll send you the link)

Sunday 10 July, Jordan Hamel reads ‘Marriage à la Mode’.

Jordan is a Pōneke-based writer, poet and performer. His debut collection Everyone is everyone except you was published by Dead Bird Books in May. He was the 2018 New Zealand Poetry Slam champion, the 2021 Michael King Writer in Residence, and has had poetry, essays and stories published in The Spinoff, The Pantograph Punch, Newsroom, Sport, NZ Poetry Shelf, Landfall, Turbine | Kapohau and elsewhere. Catch him before he heads to the US as a Fulbright Scholar to complete a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan!
