Amitayus - one day retreat
with Birgit Saunders

Who is Amitayus?
Amitayus is a Buddha who increases our lifespan, merit (positive energy), and wisdom. 'Amitayus' means 'Infinite Life' and signifies that by relying on this holy being we will not only overcome the dangers of untimely death in this life, but eventually attain the ultimate goal of enlightenment.

Using our precious human life to the full
There is nothing more precious than our life. Because we have a precious human life, we have the opportunity to experience both temporary and ultimate happiness.
We usually regard material possessions as very important and put much effort into acquiring them, but in reality our human life is our most important possession.
If we lose our life, we shall have no opportunity to enjoy a human life, to practice Buddha’s teachings and to actualise our potential for enlightenment.

Therefore in order to complete our spiritual journey to temporary and ultimate happiness we need to increase our lifespan, merit and our wisdom. In this special one day retreat we have the opportunity to do this through the special meditation practice of Buddha Amitayus.

The sessions
There are three sessions: you are welcome to drop in for any or all of the retreat sessions and there is no charge. Each session lasts for an hour and a quarter and consists of chanted prayers sung in English and silent periods for meditation. Prayer booklets will be available to help you in your retreat session. We suggest that you arrive five to ten minutes before the sessions so that you can get settled before they begin.

Session times:
10 - 11.15am
12 - 1.15pm
3 - 4.15pm

Who is this retreat for?
Everybody is welcome to attend this retreat regardless of experience.

You don’t need to bring anything along to the retreat, though if you are staying for the whole day, you might bring your own lunch.

There are is a beautiful garden to enjoy between sessions - and tea and coffee. (Note: there is no charge)
