Aerial Hoop or Lyra as its traditionally called is a circus-based apparatus. A metal hoop suspended in the air which is used to perform acrobatic style tricks in and around. Within Aerial fitness class, we work on mastering the fundamentals of the artform, covering circus-style strength and conditioning exercises to enable you to achieve the spectacular tricks preformed in the aerial hoop.

Within this 6 week course we will cover the fundamental tricks and poses of aerial hoop. Each session will also include a warm-up and cool down, strengthen and flexibility exercises to develop the skills to master the apparatus.

What to wear: We recommend wearing long pants, bring a top with sleeve, socks are recommended.
Suitable for absolute beginners, no prior aerial or other fitness experience necessary.

Aerial Hoop is a challenging full-body workout, you will be required to hold you body weight with your arms (you do not need to be able to complete full pull up prior).

It is natural to find these classes intimating as a beginner, aerial fitness pushes you out of your comfort zone. Through attending classes you will gain the strength, flexibility and body awareness needed to achieve the desirable tricks (nothing is impossible). We fully understand the starting can be challenging as we have all been there, after a couple classes you will start to see progress which is extremely rewarding and makes the process totally worthwhile.

If you have any prior injuries especially shoulders we do recommend consulting your GP or Physio beforehand. For more information please feel free to contact us directly hello@highabove.co.nz.
