The Rotorua Fishing and Casting Club Incorpated’s iconic annual fishing competition on the glorious Matata Straights has been held every Auckland Anniversary Weekend since 1969. This fabulous summer tradition attracts surf fishers from all over NZ to the beautiful Bay of Plenty.
The 53rd Annual Surfcasting Bonanza will be held on 30 January 2022 from 7 am to 2 pm and the final weigh in at 3pm.
This event will be running under COVID restrictions so no actual prizegiving will be held, however, all prize winners will be notified on the day.
The event is limited to 1,000 tickets. Tickets are available from Hamills Rotorua and Tauranga, Hunting and Fishing Rotorua, Iceman Whakatane, Game Gear Te Puke (Wednesday and Friday), BP Pongakawa, Matata Superfoods and Top Catch Mount Maunganui.
There is a total of over $17,000 in cash and product for prizes. First prize for heaviest snapper is $3,000 and $1,200 for heaviest Kahawai plus many more wonderful prizes including a variety of children’s prizes.
