This year, Gareth Shute published a North Shore Storymap on the music history website www.audioculture.co.nz. The map captures the live scene from 1920s dances in Milford cinemas through to Lorde performing in the heart of Devonport. Gareth will explain how this scene reflects wider changes that took place in the Auckland music. There’ll be plenty of wonderful photos too!

About the speaker:
Gareth Shute is a music historian who has authored five books, including NZ Rock and national book award winner Hip Hop Music In Aotearoa. He’s also a musician - currently with party band Thee Golden Geese, though he’s previously toured internationally with The Brunettes and the Ruby Suns.
