See something new (but old) at Wellington Museum.
Wellington Museum tells the stories of our city. Explore four floors of local taonga.
Enter through the Bond Store to experience the waterfront as it was in the late 1800s. Watch out for the sleeping cat and scuttling rat. Next, walk like a giant on the new ground floor carpet showing a satellite view of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. You’ll be able to spot your house!
Before Mittens, Wellington had Paddy the Wanderer. Venture upstairs to find the Airedale Terrier’s statue and learn about his nautical antics. Explore more of the city’s maritime history and step into a real captain’s cabin.
Make you way to the second floor to watch Māori legends come to life and play with alternate histories in Ngā Heke. Find a treasure trove of weird wonders up in The Attic. The eclectic collection celebrates Wellington’s quirky side. Experience the time machine, listen to local reports of UFO sightings and conduct the beloved model train.
Wellington Museum is free and open daily 10:00am - 5:00pm.
