COVID-19 ALERT LEVEL 2 UPDATE:

Due to COVID-19 Alert Level 2 restrictions, Tuatara Open Late on Thursday 4 March will have restricted capacity and booking is required. There are two session times available from 5 to 8pm (Talk and Book Club) and 8 to 9pm (Monadic Device), and you can choose to book for both sessions (separately).

City Gallery remains open under Covid-19 Alert Level 2. The health and safety of our visitors and staff is very important to us so we continue to follow Ministry of Health advice and guidelines around physical distancing, hygiene, visitor numbers and contact tracing. All visitors are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell, to maintain physical distancing while in City Gallery and are required to complete contract tracing upon entering via the NZ COVID Tracer app or manually. Art, music, film, talks, beer, wine, and food. A changing programme of late-night events on the first Thursday of the month.

This month: don’t miss the first chance to explore our new exhibition 'Marianna Simnett: CREATURE'. Simnett has gained global attention for her visceral, theatrical video works, which draw on storytelling and folklore conventions. Simnett’s wicked tales of transformation are not for the faint-hearted!

At 6pm get your pulse excited by 'Bodily Exchanges: Blondes, Beasts and Body Swaps'. This short illustrated lecture by Dr Erin Harrington delves into women, identity and bodies in horror.

At 7pm Pip Adam and the City Gallery Book Club return with a reading list inspired by 'Marianna Simnett: Creature', monsters and modern fairy tales. Panellists: Sam Duckor-Jones (artist, poet), Erin Harrington (author, lecturer), and Rebecca Hawkes (fiction writer and former journalist). They will be discussing:

- 'This Is Not A Pipe' by Tara Black
- 'This Young Monster' by Charlie Fox
- 'Under My Skin (film)' by Jonathon Glazer

Also, in a moment of total meta-ness, illustrator and author of 'This Is Not A Pipe', Tara Black, will be in the audience illustrating this session of City Gallery Book Club: Monster Mash.

As always, our bar and galleries open at 5pm, there'll be Tuatara beers, Seresin Estate wine, supper treats from Mao and Co, and sounds from a RadioActive DJ.

Timetable:

5pm - Galleries are open, Radio Active DJ plays, our bar is open, and Mao and Co serve dinner treats
6pm - Bodily Exchanges: Blondes, Beasts and Body Swaps, a short illustrated lecture by Dr Erin Harrington.
7pm - Book Club: Monster Mash, this event will be drawn live by illustrator and author Tara Black.
8pm - Monadic Device in action
