It has been said that early settlers held Saturday night dances in Whatipū’s Te Ana Ru cave, known as ‘the ballroom cave’. A re-purposed, winchable kauri floor was installed by local timber mill workers, which Hansen and Gillam have re-created. Accompanied by a soundscape of subterranean seismic vibrations and taonga pūoro captured in Te Ana Ru, this exhibition is an outcome of the artists’ 2019 Auckland Regional Parks Artist Residency.
