The Kitchenmaid and the Wine Writer talk Homecooked

Featherston Booktown, in association with Property Brokers, are thrilled to bring Lucy Corry and Joelle Thomson together in a fantastic foodie conversation between The Kitchenmaid and the Wine Writer on 'Homecooked.'

Wellington-based food writer and consummate home cook Lucy Corry has been described as “Stephanie Alexander meets Nigel Slater” – and anyone who knows their cumin from their cardamon knows that’s high praise indeed.

On Saturday 20 November 2021, Lucy will discuss her many years of cooking and brand new cookbook, Homecooked: Seasonal recipes for every day, with wine writer Joelle Thomson. Their Featherston Booktown event will begin at 3:00 pm in Featherston’s Kiwi Hall, with Property Brokers as sponsors.

Not only is Lucy a fabulous cook, but she’s also a clever and engaging writer who has written for NZ Life & Leisure, Canvas, Sunday, Your Weekend, Frankie, Cuisine, Nadia Journal, Gourmet Traveller, nzherald.co.nz, Stuff.co.nz and radionz.co.nz. Recently she co-authored the Ockham award-winning 'Hiakai: Modern Māori Cuisine' and wrote the much-loved 'Burger Wellington' cookbook.

Homecooked brings together 350+ of Lucy’s delicious and achievable recipes, ideas and wise ways to use flavoursome New Zealand produce throughout the seasons.

At the event she’ll discuss what keeps her cooking for herself, her family and her friends, and why everyone can do it. As she says, “Start with toast – make sure you can see teeth marks in the butter – and see where it takes you.”

Always funny and entertaining, and butter loving, Lucy will be perfectly paired with Joelle Thomson, an expert wine writer from Martinborough, who has published 15 books about her favourite libation.

Lucy’s new book will be for sale, thanks to Featherston's bookshop, Chicken and Frog Bookstore, and she will be available to sign it during an Artisanal Food Fair that begins at 1:00 pm in the Anzac Hall complex before her talk. The Artisan Food Fair will feature Wairarapa food producers and cookbook stalls. There will be stalls outside the hall including the best hotdogs in town, courtesy of Bavaria NZ.

Everyone loves a country raffle and thanks to our super generous food stallholders, who have donated their products, we will have a couple of baskets full of goodies, and cookbooks for you to win. All proceeds from the Foodies for the Featherston Foodbank raffle will go to the Featherston Foodbank, run by Featherston's Own Charity Shop.

Both Lucy’s event and the Artisan Food Fair will be held in Featherston’s Anzac Hall Complex (62 Bell Street), which is large enough to enable social distancing in accordance with Level 2 restrictions. All attendees must wear a mask and scan their COVID app or sign in for contact tracing. If there is a change of COVID level back to level 3 or 4, we will postpone this event to a later date. Ticket purchasers can opt to receive an immediate refund if the postponement date doesn't suit them or they can choose to donate their ticket fee to Featherston Booktown.
