An artistic exploration of a scientific discovery has culminated in a new exhibition ‘Te Awa Reo’ heading to Taupō Museum and Art Gallery fresh from the Sarjeant Gallery in Whanganui. The exhibition revolves around a core sample taken from the Whanganui River bed that dates back to AD 50-130 and explores Whanganui iwi’s relationship with Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), Te Awa Tupua (the Whanganui River) and Matua te Toa, (Mount Tongariro) from a cultural perspective.
Fourteen artists have used photography, ceramics, printmaking, weaving, collage, paint, sculpture, book arts, glass and poetry to represent Te Awa Reo - a tributary of tributes to Te Awa Tupua - the ancestral rivers of ancient knowledge.
Taupō Museum is open 7 days from 10am to 4:30pm (except Easter Friday April 2) and entry is free to Taupō District residents with proof of address.
