Sophie and Mark are the owners of Abel, a wine and cider business in Nelson. Mark’s brother, Damien McGill– executive member of the Superhome Movement and director of The Healthy Home Cooperation – helped the couple plan an ultra-energy-efficient home that would be in harmony with its tranquil surroundings.
“Our youngest daughter has allergy issues, so the concepts of mechanical ventilation and a warm, dry, resilient home really appealed to us,” says Sophie.
Sophie also likes that they haven’t needed heating as yet. Mark likes that when he wakes up he has no idea what the temperature outside is. They both like the fact they could build a healthy home with low power bills on a tight budget. They had to reduce the size to fit the budget so they could still ensure it was a high-performance family home. “It’s more than big enough for us and in hindsight, we could have made it smaller,” says Sophie.
Come, feel, touch, a warm dry resilient family home, but to a budget. It may be a life-changing experience!
Who knows, there may just be some cider or wine to take away too...
