Over the past 18 months we have been developing a seed garden at the Kukutaaruhe community garden. Seeds are essential for a working food economy and home growing so we set out to set an example of a local seed growing initiative. We focus on heritage seeds and perennials. Through that time we learned a lot and we would like to share some of the lessons, as well as supporting you in starting your own seed garden as part of this workshop.
Growing your own food is great but growing seed opens new doors and sets you in intimate contact with the food that are grown. The commercially available plants are only a small percentage of what is available as seeds so in terms of biodiversity saving your own seeds is a great asset. If you are ready to embark on the journey of seed saving and start your own seed garden. Feel free to attend this workshop and bring along some questions and experiences.
