‘Speargrass Skies Run Run By’ is the story of grandparents who are raising mokopuna, in particular one grandmother and her mokopuna who live in Te Matau A Māui, Hawkes Bay.
This live performance is built from a series of interviews from one grandmother, her whānau and a group of rangatahi and weaves together their words with movement, song, light and soundscape.
Alongside the performance we have developed a web-based experience that gives you a taste of the stories we are telling and the places those stories come from. Napier, Hastings, Waimarama, Flaxmere, Heretaunga. You can find the website here: https://ssrrb.co.nz/
‘spaces >in< between’ is a collective of artists exploring and interest in stories from particular Aotearoa whānau, and translating these stories from the community into dramatic works. We hold a kaupapa to magnify the voices of everyday people and to connect people and share stories.
