Wai-te-ata Press is celebrating the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri with a special exhibition sponsored by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.

An extension of Italian Language Week (18-25 October), E quindi uscimmo a riveder Stella | Snapshots of Dante’s Life & Work features a commissioned image by award-winning Italian artist now based in Sydney, Thomas Campi, text by PhD candidate Paddy Twigg (School of Languages and Cultures), design by Reader Dr Sydney Shep (Wai-te-ata Press) and oversight by Reader Dr Marco Sonzogni (School of Languages and Cultures).

Panels focusing on Dante’s life and contributions are complemented by displays of book covers exemplifying the writer’s enduring inspiration across the centuries. The exhibition text is set in Dante, an old-style serif font designed by Giovanni Mardersteig and used for the first publication of his renowned private press, Officina Bodoni.
