SMOOGLYANKA Folk & Ballet Troupe

The Peaceful East Expedition 2022 proudly presents SMOOGLYANKA, a spectacular 32 member Folk and Ballet Troupe featuring colourful costumes and traditional Russian music. Direct from Auckland for one unique afternoon performance in Picton, Marlborough, New Zealand.

The event is to commemorate 200 years since Capt Bellingshausen & Capt Lazarev from the First Russian Antarctic Expedition ( FRAE 1819-1821) made an unexpected but highly significant visit to Totaranui/Queen Charlotte Sound in 1820.

Come along and learn more of the stories and background of Maori in the Sounds first meeting Russians, plus future commemoration plans for the Peaceful East Expedition in NZ over the next 5 years.
