Each year, SGCNZ holds 24 Festivals nationwide, in which secondary-age students, from 11 to 19 years old, perform 5- and 15-minute scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, set in any time, place, ethnicity and attire – though definitely in Shakespeare’s words, in English or translated!

With every ‘Will’ in the world we will be on a stage near you in 2021!
There has been overwhelming pressure for the festivals to be live in 2021, as the sheer enthusiasm, energy and excitement is unable to be fully replicated digitally-- play "on, Macduff."

Come and support our Southland Region students as they showcase their creative and innovative adaptions of the Bard's work!

An outstanding 5- and a 15-minute scene from Southland will be chosen to perform at the National Festival and participate in the workshops, tours, talks and more held in Wellington over Queen’s Birthday weekend at the Michael Fowler Centre and other locations within the city.

2021 is SGCNZ's 30th Anniversary Year and we look forward to celebrating the extraordinary talents of our participants, alumni, supporters, donors and friends at this and our many other events throughout the year.

Hear more about SGCNZ's National University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival from the students themselves.
