Auckland Live, our partners and artists involved in Auckland Live Summer in the Square regret to announce that due to Auckland being in Covid-19 Alert Level 2, events scheduled from Thursday 18 – Monday 22 February will not be going ahead. Due to the nature of the events planned and difficulty limiting audience numbers in Aotea Square, the events have been cancelled to support the welfare and safety of our artists, staff and audiences.

We are monitoring advice from the Ministry of Health and will provide further updates on the remaining Summer in the Square events scheduled for this month as soon as information is available.

Before the I Am Greta documentary starts at 6.30 pm, arrive a little early to see this inspiring new short film, Rise, and meet the young Kiwi organisers of one of New Zealand’s biggest protest marches of a generation, and hear what motivated them to take action.

The seas are rising and so are we… Rise is a short film that dives deep into the motivations, fears, and hopes of a passionate group of young climate activists in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

On the 27th of September 2019, during the largest climate protest in the world, Rise's producers went behind the scenes with the group who were charged with bringing as many people to the streets of Aotearoa as possible. Following their journey over the day provides the backdrop for getting to know an exceptional and diverse group of young people. Combined with studio interviews, we come to understand what it is that has made them take on this mahi as their top priority and how it’s affecting them, their whānau and their sense of the future.

These rangatahi are reflections of a global movement and they are working like never before to make change. As time runs out, this is a quest of epic proportions, taken on by young people with heart, emotional strength and commitment to the cause.

The Terrace Café and Hello Sailor are open and sell both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as tasty eats and treats. Please note you cannot BYO alcohol to Summer in the Square and parents, please don't drop off or leave your children unsupervised at this event.
