“An artist who refuses to limit herself.” - Katie Brown, The May Magazine

There’s so much to enjoy in the 3rd single release of 2021 by Taranaki Soul-Folk singer-songwriter Renée Millner.

Millner has the gift of imbuing her songs with an engagingly simple sincerity and depth of meaning that is masterful and moving. With a smoky, soulful voice which commands immediate attention, her newest release ‘So Much’ holds its place between confessional contemporaries Julia Jacklin and Beth Orton, tempered with the earthiness of Courtney Barnett. In ‘So Much’, Millner’s earthy, powerful vocals take soulful leaps as the upbeat romp from the band invites you to pursue what's important to you.

Born and raised in Sydney, but now settled permanently in Taranaki, as a child, Millner learned classical clarinet and piano. After completing high school she became enthralled by 90’s acoustic ballads her Japanese friends played, and taught herself acoustic guitar. The following years saw her adopt a nomadic lifestyle, living between Melbourne, Sydney, rural NSW, Japan and China, with stints traveling solo throughout South America, Mexico & The United States. Millner describes, “These experiences abroad flow into my music-making, so much that I feel like my heart is everywhere.”

Millner, with a fondness for 80’s pop, has collaborated extensively with producer Sam Johnson of Rhythm Ace Studios on her last three releases, so it is no surprise that a more pop-electronic sound is beginning to emerge.

In addition to the new single, Millner is celebrating the release of the ‘So Much’ music video, directed by videographer Hugo Eaton, and featuring Leon Crean (Taranaki Hard). Shot on the hills surrounding Mt. Taranaki, the music video takes you into a journey of connection, community and self-acceptance.

Join Renee and her fabulous band consisting of Jarrod Hooper (drums/percussion) and Matthew Mahood (bass guitar) + special guests for a soulful night of beautiful and affirming original music.

“Millner’s new song ‘So Much’ treats us to her soulful, goose-bump invoking voice, hopeful lyrics gliding within the tightly Sam Johnson-produced track. It builds from a kick and electric guitar intro into a wall-of-sound chorus that pulls at your heartstrings in true Renee fashion. This one is on repeat for a while....".

Andy Averbuch - Media Engineer & Manager of 2017 Latin Grammy winners Flor De Toloache

“Millner is able to convey a spine-tingling depth of emotion with her incredible voice, but what is surprising is how the zenith of its beauty and power is held within its soulful gentleness.”
