The foundation of the Buddhist way of life is to go for refuge – to Buddha, to guide us along the spiritual path to enlightenment; to Dharma (Buddha’s teachings) to protect us from fear and suffering; and to Sangha (those practising Buddha’s teachings) to inspire us, show a good example and to help us along the path to inner peace.
Going for refuge means finding inner protection from our problems and worries so that we remain peaceful and happy, no matter how difficult our external circumstances may be.
The retreat is a perfect opportunity to take some time out of the hustle, bustle and noise of life to be still and quiet - so that we can nurture and deepen our own sense of inner peace, and develop those qualities of mind that protect us from inner suffering. If you haven't attended a retreat like this before, you are welcome to come along and try it out. It's a very peaceful experience.
There are four sessions over the day, and you are welcome to come along to any or all of the sessions. Kelsang Phunwang will guide us, and each session will consist of chanted prayers sung in English and a silent period for your own reading, contemplation and meditation. Meditation handbooks will be available to help with this.
