'Refreshing Human Rights for our Time and Place' by Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt.

Please join us for a public lecture from New Zealand’s Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt.

Paul will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Waikato in recognition of his substantial and exemplary contributions to global human rights and equality. An Honorary Doctorate is the most prestigious award that the University of Waikato can bestow and recognises those who have made exemplary contributions to the University, the Waikato region, and wider New Zealand community.

Following his conferral, Paul Hunt will deliver a public lecture:

'Refreshing Human Rights for our Time and Place'

Paul Hunt argues that, although human rights have made a major contribution to our society, they urgently need refreshing for our time and place. They have become fractured, narrow, legalistic and insufficiently contextual. He outlines how human rights can become more relevant and meaningful to the everyday lives of everyone in Aotearoa

This special ceremony and lecture will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton. You will need to be seated inside the Concert Chamber by 3.30pm.

Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton.

Due to limited seating, please register your attendance by visting the website link listed.
