Moon and lunar-based practices have always been studied and aligned within the Asian Wisdom Traditions.

Within the Chinese energetic and spiritual arts, the Moon is Yin and the Sun is Yang. The New Moon period is said to be ‘Yin within Yin’ as there is an absence of Sun (Yang) shining on the Moon (Yin).
Full Moon is considered ‘Yang within Yin’ as the Sun (Yang) shines on the surface of the Moon (Yin).

The cycles of the Moon have profound effects on all nature on Earth, from the ocean’s tides to menstrual cycles. In Chinese traditions, it is said that the Moon influences our Blood, Essence and Qi. In arts like Qigong, it is desirable to align oneself with the cycles of the Moon to leverage these energetic influences and patterns to our advantage.

New Moon is the time of utmost Yin. During this time, the Moon has less of an invigorating influence on us and as such, our practices should be gentle, introspective and nourishing. This is also a good time to plant seeds as over the coming two weeks, the energetics of the waning moon is very supportive. Thus it is said when Yin is at its peak, Yang is born.

This short workshop (1.5 hours) will introduce some of the foundational principles of Qigong energy cultivation, in alignment with the New Moon. The practices covered will be simple, grounding, nourishing and harmonising.

Presented by Cloud Wanderers Kate & Henri, enthusiastic Internal Arts students and teachers.
