Announcing a brand-new festival for all you print junkies out there!

Whether you’re a creator, collector or simply an admirer of hand-made prints, this is for you!
Printopia is Auckland’s inaugural festival of original print, celebrating traditional and contemporary printmaking processes, taking place on 7 & 8 May at Corban Estate Arts Centre, Henderson, Auckland.

Over the two days, catch an exciting line-up of live printmaking demonstrations, artist talks, a print fair and workshops. Meet artists, learn about the process, try it yourself and buy some original prints.

The festival will feature some of the best established and emerging print artists in the country with an outstanding array of techniques to inspire visitors. For the full programme of both free and ticketed events, please visit the Printopia website.

Festival Programme

Saturday, 7 May 2022, 10am – 5pm - Festival-goers can experience a range of free, print-related activities, open to the public; Print Demos, Print Lab, Print Talks and a Print Fair. In the chill-out zone, visitors can connect with old and new print friends while sampling tasty Jamaican food from Gracefully Jerked food truck.

Sunday, 8 May 2022, 10am – 5pm – Enjoy a selection of workshops, open to all skill levels and without needing any prior printmaking knowledge. Many techniques are simple enough to be continued at home or a shared studio space, with a focus on sustainable, non-toxic materials. It will get messy though, so an apron is highly recommended!

In these fun workshops you will learn the traditional art of gyotaku using sustainably caught New Zealand fish species; discover how to use recycled Tetrapak cartons to create their own dry-point intaglio prints; explore cyanotype as a quick, easy, non-toxic alternative harnessing the energy of the sun; create unique patterned textiles using Moana block prints; learn how to transform your printed images into original 3D objects: gain an insight into CYMK screen-printing and be inspired by this creative and practical introduction to screen-printing on textiles. We are extremely grateful to our sponsors who help us sustain Printopia and its various activities: Print Council Aotearoa NZ, Creative Communities NZ, SCG Creative Content Print, Paper Source, The French Art Shop, Rad Solutions, Permaset Inks and Gordon Harris, Karma Drinks and DASH Drinks.

See you there!
