Uwe Grodd’s contributions to classical music have brought him international acclaim as flautist, conductor, editor and teacher. He has made world première recordings of more than 80 works of 18th and early 19th century music.

Grodd gained worldwide attention as conductor and musicologist when awarded First Prize at the Cannes Classical Awards 2000 for Best 18th Century Orchestral Recording for his CD of Vaňhal Symphonies, and twice earned Gramophone magazine’s Editor’s Choice, as well as the International Record Review Outstanding industry award.

A graduate of Mainz University (Germany) Grodd has studied with André Jaunet, Robert Aitken and Maestro Sergio Celibidache. He is now Professor Emeritus of the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and his students’ international performances and prizes are testament to his success as teacher. In 2008 he was invited to become Music Director of the Auckland Choral Society and has been Music Director of the Manukau Symphony Orchestra since its inception in 1993.

His editions of music by Vaňhal, Hummel, Beethoven and Ries, published by Artaria Editions, are increasingly in demand.
