Join us on the Paua Pearl Farm Tour Saturday 8th May.

Come on a journey of discovery as you join the Beachcomber Cruises Paua Pearl Farm Tour. Take the opportunity to experience the cruise as a one-time special, as usually this is an on-demand private tour only.

The Paua Pearl Farm Tour is a wonderfully exclusive tour showing you a true kiwi experience nestled within the Queen Charlotte Sound. This is a rare opportunity to take a glimpse into a truly unique part of New Zealand marine life and spend one on one time with experts in the Paua industry.

Depart Picton and cruise through the Queen Charlotte Sound right to the very end of the Tory Channel where our destination is Whekenui Bay; Arapawa Island, home to the Radon family and the Paua Pearl Farm. Your skipper will provide a commentary along the way, pointing out highlights and wildlife as we cruise. Cruising down the Tory Channel we will pass salmon and mussel farms and the old Perano Whaling Station which is now a historic landmark.

Arapawa Seafarms owners and residents of Whekenui Bay Mike and Antonia Radon will welcome you on arrival and will be your hosts for this portion of the tour. They will personally guide you on a tour of the farm which has not only been there home for several years but also their place of work, turning the Paua industry into a lifelong passion. You will see how the Paua is grown, see the Paua at different stages of growth and see how the beautiful and rare blue Paua Pearl is harvested and created into stunning and unique pieces of jewellery. Upon completion of the tour you have the chance to see the rare blue Paua Pearls loose or that have been made into jewellery now for sale in Antonia’s shop. A delicious homemade morning tea is also then served in the family home before your cruise back to Picton.

Please note that you are visiting a working farm so there are hazards to be aware of, we do suggest a good level of mobility to take this tour.

Departure Time from Picton: 10:00 am
Return Time to Picton: 2:00 pm
