It is this unyielding spirit of Christchurch that has encouraged and inspired Haihua ZHANG to create the artworks in this exhibition.
Painting is her passion. To Haihua, bringing life to the canvas is like an adventure that lets her spirit soar free and allows her to make her dreams a reality. She strives to immortalize the beautiful moments that have stirred her heart in her time here. These moments are varied and diverse; from viewing a classic masterpiece in a gallery to glimpsing a piece of urban graffiti on the street, simply a smile, a glance, a posture...
Her name combines the Chinese characters for "Ocean" and "Flower", themes you will often find her works alongside fluttering petals, waves, and lights.
Haihua will always endeavour to never repeat herself, for life is too short for repetition, and she yearns for the next adventure.
