Nau mai haere mai, you are welcome to attend an introduction to raranga (weaving) with harakeke (flax). This is the first evening class after piloting some Saturday classes.
These classes held over the coming months at the Leonard Cockayne Centre aim to spread knowledge of geography and the traditional weaving and healing practices utilising the native plants at Ōtari Wilton’s Bush. We hope to bring our surrounding community together and get to know one another on a regular basis. Starting with Tikanga and making putiputi (flowers), over time, continued attendees will develop their skills and craft new objects.
Harakeke and other tools will be provided until you have been taught tikanga for harvesting your own.
You will walk away with small woven taonga at the end of this class. Rongoā (Māori healing) tea and other light refreshments will be provided.
